The Life of Mercy Otis Warren
Student's Notes:
Mercy Otis Warren was not just a typical lady living during the Revolutionary War. She did not just sit in her luxurious home, practicing embroidery or choosing fabric for ball gowns. Refusing to stand by passively, Mercy Warren took initiative in her life, reading and studying under the tutelage of her brothers' teachers. She furthered her skills in writing, and used her natural gifts in prose and poetry to make a statement about the current events of her day. She was very well connected through her family and friends and was often at the center of all the action. Mercy Otis Warren was certainly a powerful writer of her time, and her works provide people today with a better insight into the chaotic events of the Revolutionary War.
